SARATOGAS BRILLIANT PROGRAM FOUR STAR THREE -YEAR-OLDS TO MEET IN THE RENEWAL OF THE HISTORIC TRAVERS STAKES, WITH WHISK AW AY GIVING WEIGHT TO KAI-SANG, BUNTING AND ROCKMINISTER Today promises to furnish an afternoon of grand racing at Saratoga. The splendid card is in accordance with the dignity of the occasion. From the first to the last race competition of the most strenuous description seems to be inevitable. Three stake races, with records gemmed with the deeds of great horses of bygone days, are among those to be decided. Such renownd jumpers as Lion Heart, Dr. Catlett, The Bachelor, Weldship and The Brook are among the Beverwyck winners. None lFke them is among those named to start tomorrow, but all the elements of a spectacular race seems provided by those down to go. The Travers Stakes is the oldest stake race of the United States for three-year-olds, although not one contested annually since its far away establishment, in the days when the Civil War was being waged fiercely. It is a race of glorious traditions, of wonderful strivings between wonderful horses. Happily its running today promises to measure up to the standard of those which have passed into turf history. The field is not large, but Whiskaway, Kai-Sang, Bunting and Rockminister, with track room sufficient to enable them to race to the limit of their prowess, should furnish a magnificent race, worth a long journey to witness. If Whiskaway fails to concede weight to such doughty opponents, not the least tinge of disgrace would attach to the failure. The Grand Union Hotel Stakes is one of the admirably conditioned Saratoga stake races for two-year-olds that have their culmination in the struggle for the 0,000 Hopeful Stakes on the last day of the meeting. With the heavyweights Goshawk, Martingale and Bud Lerner named to go, an inspiring struggle is in sight. The condensed records of the three races are: THAAERS STAKES. Year. First. Jockeys. Wt.
