: MUDDY GOING HURTS AT ERIE ERIE, Pa., August 25. The card at Exposition Park this afternoon was made up of a series of claiming races, which were run over a muddy track due to a heavy rain this morning and a storm which broke over the course after the third race. Despite the changed conditions the form "backers had an inning when four of the favorites scored with ease. Judge F. Gerhardy was an arrival today from Windsor and will serve as presiding judge during the remainder of this meeting. Mr. Gerhardy will also be the presiding official during the meeting at Conneaut Lake Park, which opens on Monday, and Lester Dean will do the starting. Jockey T. Buel was set down by starter Dean for the remaining day of this meeting for disobedience while at the post in the fifth race. D. Hill shipped his string today to Conneaut Lake Park. W. Brown and M. Jordan will ship from here to Wheeling, W. Va. The majority of the remaining stables racing at this meeting will ship to Conneaut Park at the conclusion of the racing here "tomorrow. Jockey W. Dunkinson was an arrival today from Montreal. H. E. Palmer claimed Virge out of the fifth race for 00. Peasant was sold to M. Byrne at private sale today and will be shipped to Conneaut Lake.
