SALES AT LEXINGTON, KY. Sixty-Four Head Go Under Hammer for Total of 6,025. Yearling Half Brother to Exterminator Brings Top Price Stallion Vander-grift to Garrett Watts for ,500. LEXINGTON, Ky., November 22. Thoroughbred horses, principally brood mares, were sold last night by the Kentucky Sales Company at Tattersalls, George A. Bain auctioneer, to the number of sixty-four for a total of 6,025, the average being ?719. The sale was well attended, but the majority or those present were bargain hunters and the bidding was brisk only upon such as presented potential possibilities for quick returns. Mares that were supposedly barren were slowly sold, yet for fair prices. There was a quick market for young stock at fair prices. The top of the sale was the yearling half brother to Exterminator. He had been broken but not tried. James Macelhatten of Philadelphia got him for ,000. His dam, Fair Empress, not believed to be in foal, though bred to McGee, the sire of Exterminator, brought ?525 and was purchased by Whitney Moore, one of the owners of McGee. James Macelhatten also got Quilting Bee for ,300 from the consignment of Edward Cebrian and this daughter of Ogden brought more than any other mare. The eleven-year-old stallion Vandergrift, sold by the estate of the late Captain Breckinridge Viley, brought ,500 and his future home will be at the farm of Garrett Watts.
