JOHN S. WARD CONVALESCING IX3TJISVTLLE, Ky., December 1. John SL, Ward, one of Kentuckys prominent turfmen, is convalescing at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, this city, from a surgical operation which he underwent last Saturday. His ailment was more serious than at first supposed and he will remain in the institution a month or more. Ward is owner of Donges, one of the leading money-winning two-year-olds of 1922, which is spending the winter at Churchill Downs under the care of trainer Roscoe Goose. A consignment of the Ward and Goosa string, embracing eight horses, have been sent to New Orleans in charge of W. V. Walsh. He will also take along Billy Dunn for G. E. Knebelkamp and a yearling filly by Boots and Saddle Penalty, for Tom Callahan, local moving picture magnate. She will join the Knebelkamp Stable upon her arrival in the Crescent City. This filly recently worked a quarter of a mile in 22 at Churchill Downs. Jockey B. Harvey, under contract to Gallaher Brothers, will accompany Walsh to New Orleans and ride for him there throughout the winter.
