STILL MUDDY RACING Fair Grounds Track Heavy and Difficult to Traverse My Beverie Again Baces to Her True Form and Takes the Fea ¬ ture Eace with Great Ease NEW ORLEANS La January 3 Racing today at the Fair Grounds brought about many close and stubbornly fought finishes despite the difficult going It was the most interesting days sport so far here and was witnessed by a fairly large assemblage A tinge of winter was in the air and kept many of the spectators circulating around the grounds groundsThere There was a falling off of layers in the betting pavilion during the afternoon only fifty plying their vocation vocationBecause Because of the heavy going scratches in the different races except the opening race which was for twoyearolds and the first of its kind here this year were numerous light fields contesting as a result resultRiding Riding skill played a prominent part in the result of some of the dashes It was Lykcs superb horsemanship and finishing ability that gained for E R Bradley the honor of taking the first twoyearold race of the year here when his Bye Bye got up in the last stride to nose Bamra out after both had indulged in a hard duel during the final eighth of the threeeighths dash dashBamra Bamra showed fine speed and quick be ¬ ginning ability when she left the barrier with a rush and raced into a good lead Lyke however had also succeeded in getting Bye Bye away from the barrier in good order and under his excellent horsemanship the daughter of Broomstick Bellesari succeeded in getting up in the final stride There were nine youngsters that started here but most of them were green and showed lack of bar ¬ rier schooling The winner is a good looker but small Lee Adrin ran a good race to land in third place Several of the starters also showed inability to run freely in the difficult going goingLESLIE LESLIE FAILS BADLY BADLYThe The second race witnessed the downfall of the first favorite of the afternoon when Les ¬ lie failed badly the purse gonig to Macbeth but his margin of victory was of the hairline variety Rork just failing to get up to beat him out Flying Devil another outsider took third place placeTody Tody an overwhelming choice gave the favorite backers a jolt when she just failed to register for the purse Fannie Bean win ¬ ning here by a scant neck after having come from a long way back in the stretch and headed the favorite in the last twenty yards With another sixteenth to go Queen High which landed in third place would have won wonMy My Reverie repeated her victory scored on the opening day by taking the feature purse a handicap at threequarters with Auntie May under a somewhat weak ride landing in second place and Rapid Traveler third There was considerable expectation hang ¬ ing about High Cost but that erratic one was on his bad post behavior and refused to leave with the others resulting in his getting left at the post postCantilever Cantilever and Accelerate were considered to have the fifth race betwen them but Ac ¬ celerate had scant chance because of her riders tactics in keeping her in the worst part of the track and Cantilever also suf ¬ fered from the same method for he was at the exhaustion stage when Attorney caught him in the last sixteenth and beat him to the finish Cantilever came back badly lame Sagamook finished in third place placeANOTHER ANOTHER FOR ETTAHE ETTAHEEttahe Ettahe which won Tuesdays closing dash surprised by coming right back with another victory in todays sixth race in which the veteran beat Amaze and Satana SatanaThe The concluding race fell to Booneville on which the diminutive Doyle rode a million dollar race and outstayed Waukeag in a hard drive Pictor in this finished as if he had broken down downLeslie Leslie changed ownership after the second race when A Swcnke secured him by the claiming process at a cost of 2250 2250Mose Mose Goldblatt and C II Knebelkamp have been striving hard for several days to secure the contract on E Corcoran a younger brother of J Corcoran and Knebel ¬ kamp succeeded in procuring his parents signature to the necessary papers papersJockey Jockey E Barnes today signed his con ¬ tract for the coming racing season with the Quincy Stable StableC C Ponco has been added to the E R Bradleys stable array of riding talent and will report to Idle Hour Farm January 15 after a brief visit to his homo in Jackson ¬ ville Fla where his parents reside resideJ J Ponce a younger brother who is am ¬ bitious to become a rider has signed a con ¬ tract with A Swcnke W A Shea has disposed of Loughland to P Arieux at private terms
