LONG JOURNEY IN SAFETY Horses Purchased at Newmarket Sales in England Beach Ken ¬ tucky Without Mishap LEXINGTON Ky January 3 The thor ¬ oughbreds bought at the Newmarket sales in England last month by Kentucky breeders shipped well and arrived safely There were twentyeight for Phil T Chinn that went to Himyar Stud and four for Leslie Combs Belair Farm three for E R Bradley Idle Hour Farm and one for A B Hancock Claiborne Stud Not one of the thirtysix was coughing and none had fever when they came off the cars last night in a light drizz ¬ ling rain rainFifteen Fifteen of Chinns are yearlings all colts except a filly by Valens by such sires as Sunstar Stefan the Great Grand Parade Clarissimus Flint Rock Rizzio Pholyphonic Skyrocket and Grey Fox II the only horse ever to have beaten Botafogo the champion race horse of the Argentine Republic There are seven threeyearolds in the Chinn string they being Giuseppe a colt and Weeping Willow the Wench Silvanella Petunia Rom sey and a brown filly by Swynford Double Back The other six are the brood mares Armine Neila Desmond Joan of Arc Win ¬ nie Melton Royal Amante and Baratija The last named came from France She is a daughter of Sundridge that Chinn bought by wireless from IL Eugene Leigh while Chinn was on ship for home The mares secured by Leslie Combs former United States min ¬ ister to Peru and father of Lucas and Brownell Combs are Picra Nuit Blanche Lady Binns and La Marseillaise MarseillaiseColonel Colonel Bradleys three are Morning Call Moreland Melody and Wick WickPouponne Pouponne a threeyearold filly by Black Jester My Dolly by Sundridge was the one that came for A B Hancock Latest Fash ¬ ion and Welch Queen which he also bought were sent to his EUerslie Stud in Virginia
