J E DAVIS NOW PRESIDENT Elected to Sncceed August Bel Belmont mont as Head of National NationalSteeplechase Steeplechase Association NEW YORK N Y January 4 At the annual meeting of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association held this afternoon J E Davis was elected president of the asso ¬ ciation succeeding August Belmont who has been at the head of the association practically since its organization organizationAt At the request of Mr Belmont his name was not presented for reelection Some time ago he expressed a desire to withdraw from the presidency but was induced to con ¬ tinue until the expiration of the year He will still continue his interest in steeplechas ing as well as in the association by serving as one of the stewards He was reelected today to serve as a steward until 1925 Henry J Morris was elected vicepresident for 1923 and Henry W Bull honorary secretary and treasurer for a similar term termSome Some few years ago the National Steeple ¬ chase and Hunt Association established a fund for the relief of jockeys trainers and horsemen interested in their particular line of racing which has been the means of bringing help to many in need of aid With a desire to broaden the scope of their work and with a welljustified appreciation of the en ¬ ergy shown by the Queens County Turf Aid Society in a similar cause among all racing folks it was decided to contribute 500 of the steeplechase funds to the work of the Queens County organization With such men as Thomas Healey James Fitzsimmons A J Joyner and John G Cavanagh in control the association Is confident that the needs of all worthy cases connected with the turf will bi provided for quietly as well as effectively effectivelyFrank Frank J Bryan was reappointed secre ¬ tary for the year and George W Gall as as ¬ sistant secretary secretaryThe The following committees were appointed appointedExecutive Executive committee A Henry Higginson Henry W Bull J E Davis Henry J Mor ¬ ris and J E Widener WidenerLicense License committee Henry J Morris F S Von Stade and J E Widener WidenerCommittee Committee on courses F S Von Stade Henry J Morris A Henry Higginson J E Widener and Charles K Harrison Jr JrRules Rules committee J E Davis J E Wid ¬ ener and F S Von Stade StadeRepresentative Representative on the Hunts Committee Henry W Bull A Henry Higginson and J IE Davis
