WHIP BORROWING IN A RACE An odd racing circumstance turned up in Queensland Australia racing last Decem ¬ ber in the Windsor Handicap race at the Ascot course of Brisbane W Hill a promi ¬ nent jockey on the favorite Snow Star lost his whip threeeighths from the finish He called on H Suddaby an apprentice who was on Owissa which finished second beaten a head for his whip and the youngster passed it on Its use won the race The stewards heard of the happening a day later and called the riders on the carpet Suddaby lied and claimed that Hill had caught the whip as it slipped from his hand Other jockeys told the ruth and Hill was lined and suspended
