UNUSUAL BREEDING EVENTS LEXINGTON Ky January 29 By com ¬ parison of the number of foals which come annually in the Blue Grass regions twins are infrequent so when it happens that one mare loses twins and another foals dead twins on the same farm as did Gentlewoman and Triple Crown respectively at Short Grass Stud a few days ago it becomes an occur ¬ rence quite out of the ordinary to say noth ¬ ing of most unusual bad luck Aside from this Mary Powells foal died after birth All these were by the stallion Short Grass The one living foal at this farm is the fine bay filly by Short Grass Ringling Emil Herz is in Chicago but is expected home this week weekDr Dr E W Hagyard today said it was rather more fortunate than otherwise when a mare loses twins the unfortunate part of it being that they conceive twins He said the alter ¬ nating weather from warm to cold which had prevailed here this winter has been the cause of the loss of a number of foals and a number of calves and lambs have been lest for the same reason
