GLEN RIDDLE 1923 STABLE Gwyn Tompkins Will Bring Twen ¬ tyOne Horses to the Races Oceanic Tops the Handicap Division and There Will Be Two Jumpers and Four ¬ teen Juveniles in the String NEW YORK N Y January 30 Samuel D Riddles Glen Riddle Farm will be repre ¬ sented at the races this year by a string of twentyone horses that Gwyn Tompkins is wintering at Mr Riddles Berlin Md farm Mr Tompkins is in New Tork looking over his stabling accommodations at Belmont Park and taking a short holiday from the farm He is also regaling his friends with tales of the Maryland duck season that makes one promise never to let another go by with ¬ out being on hand handThe The stable that Mr Tompkins will bring to the races will be made up of fourteen two yearolds and the older horses Oceanic Dinna Care Demijohn Ten Minutes Brigadier Gen ¬ eral Scribble and Boss John Of these Brig j adier General and Boss John are the steeple ¬ chasers of the outfit outfitOceanic Oceanic is easily the first in the stable This good son of The Finn and Veuve Cliquot did not really show his quality until last October but he went into winter quarters with something of a reputation after he had come to himself It was early in the spring that Oceanic showed quality that made Louis Feustel who was then training him believe that he could win the Preakness His pub ¬ lic performance gave strength to that belief but he was stricken with the prevailing epi ¬ demic of the time shortly before that en ¬ gagement fell due Later Feustel was taken ill himself and Tompkins did not get the horses until the racing season was half over He nursed them around and his success was attested to in the brilliant racing of Oceanic in Maryland in the falL falLDINNA DINNA CAKE OF HIGH CLASS CLASSDinna Dinna Care is a sixyearold that on vari ¬ ous occasions has shown plenty of quality and he is another that raced well for Tomp ¬ kins in Maryland Demijohn is a threeyear old that has never been to the post Ten Minutes is another threeyearold that was not brought to the races until late in the year while Scribble is a threeyearold filly of decided promise She is a wellnamed chestnut daughter of Ultimus and Amanuen ¬ sis She raced creditably both at Saratoga and in Maryland in the fall fallBrigadier Brigadier General has schooled in a man ¬ ner to make Tompkins believe that he will make a steeplechaser of parts and Tomp ¬ kins is not often fooled Though he devel ¬ oped and raced such crosscountry horses as Bello Gatebell Jimmie Lane Weldship and Highland Light to say nothing of other good ones he says that Brigadier General is one of the boldest jumpers he ever sad ¬ dled The other of the crosscountry pair Boss John is one that has never been raced He was trained as a twoyearold but not started He has shown a natural aptitude for jumping and Tompkins has hopes for him himLittle Little Spencer Bullman a sop of the late John Bullman has been signed up to do the lightweight riding for the stable Tommy Davies is also on the staff and will have his opportunity under the heavier weights Continued on twelfth page GLEN RIDDLE 1923 STABLE Continued from first pace Toaipkins is enthusiastic in telling of the Glen Riddle Farm at Berlin He says he lias the best race course in the country right down there and he will have no excuses for not having every facility to make the horses ready The present plan is to open the stable campaign at Havre de Grace and it is prob ¬ able at least two entries will be made for the Preakness PreaknessOf Of the twoyearolds the most promising at this time appears to be Big Blaze a son of the Futurity winner Carapfire and Queen of the Hills Shining Light another son qf Campfire and from Edna Marie and Moon Star a goodlooking chestnut son of Trompe la Mort and Star
