HAWTHORNE RESERVATIONS Horsemen Already Signify Inten ¬ tion to Eace Here in Spring Martin iXathanson Said to Hare Accepted AcceptedOfficial Official Position with Illinois Jockey JockeyClub Club Refurbishing the Plant Reservations for stable room at Hawthorne race track for the spring meeting to start May 26 began to arrive this week and among the first to order ten stalls was Charles Irby owner of Frank Fogarty Halu Sangrado Van Patrick and many other wellknown thoroughbreds John M Hubbard of Ken ¬ tucky was next in order reserving seven stalls for his string which will include Black Watch II Friz Bonero Blue and Paula A J Sansone has promised to send on Rising Rock while Sam Holman general manager of Maple Heights will arrive March 1 with Best Pal and several other fast ones onesIt It is said that Martin Nathanson secre ¬ tary of the CubanAmerican Jockey Club Havana has accepted an official position with the Illinois Jockey Club and secretary Tom Bourke leaves Monday night for Ori ¬ ental Park to discuss racing plans with Mr Nathanson On his way to Cuba Bourke will again visit New Orleans after which he plans to go to Tijuana It is believed because of his many activities in other mat ¬ ters Judge Joseph A Murphy will be too busy to act as presiding judge at Hawthorne and the names of two wellknown Kentucky stewards are now being considered by of ¬ ficials of Hawthorne The name of Frances Nelson now acting at Tijuana has been sug ¬ gested but there is little likelihood of his accepting as he is the steward representing the Canadian Racing Associations and will be busy in Canada at that time timeFred Fred W Gerhardy who served as racing secretary at Hawthorne last fall in a con ¬ ference last week here with officials of the Illinois Jockey Club expressed his willingness to return to Chicago as one of the officials officialsPLA PLA fS FOR CLUBHOUSE CLUBHOUSEMeanwhile Meanwhile plans for the erection of a ninetyfoot club west of the grandstand a stadium several new stables and other im ¬ provements are moving along under plans now being drawn by Architect Floto direc ¬ tor of construction at the Coliseum Mr Floto was recommended by Mr Charles Hall manager of the Coliseum as the one who built the bicycle track the automobile show and other like work in the Coliseum build ¬ ing With him will be Mr Lewis F Mead promotion manager and director of shows for the Universal Cement Company CompanyThe The announcement of plans for a large clubhouse at Hawthorne was welcomed as the one thing needed to further establish the success of Hawthorne as a racing plant More than 40000 will be spent on improve ¬ ments and a crew of men are now at work whipping the park grounds and stables into condition conditionIncluded Included in the plans of architect Floto is an entirely new front entrance extending along the FiftySecond avenue fence for 250 feet Large arches allowing six automobiles to enter at one time will be built out to the present roadway with sufficient box of ¬ fices to handle any size crowd Numerous complaints were heard last year because of the congestion and two buildings will be re ¬ moved to make space to extend the entrance so that capacity crowds will have little dif ¬ ficulty entering or leaving the grounds groundsEncouraging Encouraging reports from owners of thor ¬ oughbreds now racing at other tracks gives assurance to the Hawthorne directors that there will be ample horses of the better grade and the stabling problem has been satisfactorily worked out
