MOBILE ANNOUNCES PLANS I After Ten Days Meeting in March Work of Financing and Build ¬ ing New Mile Track Begins MOBILE Ala February 24 Mobile is once more to take its place pretentiously in the thoroughbred racing world if the plans of the Business Mens Racing Association mature Mobile had thoroughbred racing from before the war and some of the greatest horses of the decade were trained here It is planned to come back to this decommer ¬ cialized racing which was the vogue at that time timeAll All this is the result of a conference held some weeks ago at New Orleans between a committee of business men and Joseph A Murphy at the Fair Grounds in that city cityJudge Judge Joseph A Murphy who will direct the policies of the new organization pointed out to the committee that the better class of horses could be more easily secured if a new plant with a mile track and better equipment than the Mobile Fair Grounds was secured securedRecognizing Recognizing that this could not be accom ¬ plished this year the association has taken a lease of the Fair Grounds and will conduct a tenday meeting at the close of the Jeffer ¬ son Park racing at New Orleans The meet ¬ ing will open March 20 and close March 30 with one extra day the proceeds to be de ¬ voted to charity charityAs As soon as this is completed the work of financing and building the new plant will be begun It will be operated solely for the pur ¬ pose of bringing visitors to Mobile and with no idea of profit profitAssurances Assurances have been had that there will be no racing at New Orleans before Thanks ¬ giving Day and after March 17 This will give an opportunity for a short meeting in the spring and fall Mobile is on the direct line of Kentucky and Maryland and horse ¬ men will welcome the chance to pick up their shipping expenses expensesThe The officers of the association are William Haas president Hal C Foster secretary and Robert L Schwarz treasurer
