Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of February 25 1903 Racing at New Orleans and Ingleside Jockey Fuller scored a double at the Fair Grounds today Talbot Brothers have nino twoyearolds which will race in their colors this year It is estimated that 75000 will be offered for the steeplechase stakes for the New York tracks this year yearMorre Morre Johnson the jockey was also an ar ¬ rival at Nashville today coming from New Orleans He will work for his father J M Johnson E Trotters big sprinter Scorpio added an ¬ other victory to his long list of wins this afternoon when he won the five and a half furlong dash which was the last race on the card at New Orleans OrleansWoodford Woodford Clay of Paris Ky arrived at Nashville today and will at once commence work on the Clay Brothers string of horses In his collection he has the filly Flying Ship which was unbeaten last year This is the filly for which Gorman Bauer offered 6000 Green B Morris uncovered a finelooking twoyearold today at Ingleside when he sent Rapid Water to the post Rapid Water made his opponents look cheap getting away to a fast start and hading from start to finish being pulled up to win by two and a half lengths With the spring racing season not far dis ¬ tant few of the trainers around New York are losing any chances of preparing their charges and the early morning finds the sev ¬ eral tracks and the boulzvard well sprinkled with racers The cold snap did not last long enough to hinder galloping and although the snow was fairly deep several days ago on both the Gravcsend and Sheepshead Bay tracks nearly all the strings of the big stables were out The snow formed a cushion for the horses and several of the prominent trainers allowed the animals to step along at better than i twominute gait
