SELENE BEST ENGLISH MARE The best mare in British racing of 1922 was Lord Derbys Selene by Chaucer Serenissina purely Stanley House blood She ran eleven times and won eight races the last seven in succession successionWhen When Selene won the Liverpool Autumn Cup one and onequarter miles 170 yards in November she made the sixteenth winner of that race trained by the Hon G Lambtou in twentysix years The fact of the race being a handicap makes the record remark ¬ able On two occasions Mr Lambton won twice with the same horse those to so dis ¬ tinguish themselves being Pallisson and Chaucer Selenes sire
