INCREASES HIS HOLDINGS Frederick Johnson Buys Several SeveralHorses Horses in Kentucky J S SHawkins Hawkins Recovering LEXINGTON Ky February 27 Fred ¬ erick Johnson departed for New York last night after having made a couple of addi ¬ tions to his thoroughbred horse holdings From J C Milani lie bought the yearling brown colt by Iluon II Ming Toy by Uncle she from Saratoga Belle by Henry of Na ¬ varre next dam the famous mare Sallie Mc ¬ Clelland by Hindoo From William Shea he bought the eightyearold chestnut mare Torque by Collar from Torpenhow by Tor point Torque has at heel a fine chestnut colt by Tea Caddy and today she was mated with Brown Prince The Tea Caddy colt however is retained by Shea SheaThis This purchase now gives Johnson three daughters of Torpenhow the others being Summit by Ultimus and the twoyearold filly by Cudgel which Johnson bought out of Samuel Ross consignment of yearlings last August to the sales at Saratoga for 10 000 000Torpenhow Torpenhow was imported in 1915 by the Wyckliffe Stud and now is the property of Samuel Ross of Washington D C She is the dam of the winners War Club by the English stallion Javelinc and Herd Girl by Colin ColinJoe Joe S Hawkins sufficiently recovered from his long illness to permit of his return to the activities of his profession as a trainer arrived in Lexington last night and this morning visited the track to see the four horses he intends to race this year They are maidens and have been wintered with W E Caseys string I know practically nothing about these horses said Hawkins because of my illness and for that reason for the first time in many years I was unable to make any stake engagements If I have any stake candidates this year I will have to acquire them later laterHawkins Hawkins looks as well as he has at any time during the last ten years and he says he is feeling good goodEmil Emil Herz this morning reported the ar ¬ rival of the first of the get of Wildair It is a bay colt from the good mare Safe Home by Hilarious
