WESTERN HORSEMAN PLANS G Drumheller to Race in His Own OwnState State During Summer Goes Goesto to Tanforan in the Fall SAN FRANCISCO Cal February 27 G Drumheller of Walla Walla Wash is the latest of the owners of large strings of thoroughbreds to announce plans for racing hereabouts in the fall and winter The Wash ¬ ington breeder was among scores who in ¬ quired of Steve Judge at Nev Orleans re ¬ cently in regard to the Tanforan sport Judge is here visiting He will leave for Nev York in a few days to get back into the horse business businessDrumheller Drumheller told Judge prospects were bright for racing next summer at Seattle Spokane Tacoma and other Washington cit ¬ ies as it is expected the legislature now in session will do something for the sport Fol ¬ lowing the meetings in the North he plans to race at Tanforan TanforanJudge Judge sold the Ultimus fillies My Reverie and Last Effort to Drumheller They will be raced and later used in the breeding pad ¬ dock at the Washington haras The San Francisco man was also instrumental in putting through the sale of the Superman stallion Gladiator to the Washington man Gladiator was the property of J L Holland and when the owner was approached by Judge and Drumheller about selling said he would consult trainer William Shields about the matter matterA A few days later Holland said the sale was agreeable to him and the horse was turned over to Drumheller Gladiator is just the kind of thoroughbred that will help to j build up the industry out this way He i is a fine individual was a racer of great speed and is of blood lines that promise big j achievements as a sire sireCommando Commando scored remarkable snccess in j the few years he was in the stud his sons Celt Peter Pan Superman Colin and others i have kept the good work going and there seems to be no reason why his grandsons such as Gladiator should not be afforded the largest opportunities as a stock horse horseCommando Commando Barcaldine Musket and Mel ¬ bourne are names to attract in any pedigree and Gladiator has them all His dam Lota wanna a daughter of Trenton is from Ta bitha a daughter of the unbeaten Barcal ¬ dine Lotawanna traces to Melbourne on both the paternal and maternal sides and with the phenomenal success of the Mel ¬ bourne horse Hurry On in the stud fresh in j mind not to say anything of the race track j performances of the Melbourne horse Man o j War in this country it seems as though the i Matchem strain is pretty much to be sought after these days
