DOUBLE FOR W R COE Chopsticks and Mountain Lassie Carry Popular Silks to Victory Cuban Derby Winner Herron in First Success of Present Meet ting at Oriental Park HAVANA Cuba March 10 W R Coe3 stable scored another double victory at Ori ¬ ental Park this afternoon when Chopsticks and Mountain Lassie successfully carried the green with white dots of the popular Ameri ¬ can sportsman The formers victory came with the running of the first while Mountain Lassie beat a band of threeyearolds in the fourth Mountain Lassie conceded lumps of weight to her opponents set a fast pace from the start and beat Susiana by a half length lengthTodays Todays attendance was augmented by the arrival of an immense crowd of tourists from the States Well balanced fields went to the post and the majority of the races furnished stirring finishes finishesKenneth Kenneth Karrick saddled another winner for the W R Coe stable when he sent the twoyearold Chopsticks to the post in the first race Chopsticks was a keen factor from the start went to the front after forcing the pace to the stretch turn but bore over at the eighth post and had Sleigh Bella in very close quarers next to the inside raiL Williams had to take the latter up but at the end Chopsticks drew away and had a lengths advantage at the finish Norseland after beginning from the extreme outside finished third thirdQUANAII QUANAII MAKES GOOD GOODQuanah Quanah which has alternated starting in longdistance races and sprinting dashes and which has proven a disappointment probably more times than any horse racing here finally made good this afternoon when he won the second race a dash of threequar ¬ ters He began none too well but when settled in his stride gained rapidly on the backstretch and rounding the far turn drew away into a long lead but tired some in the stretch stretchJack Jack Hill was another firsttime winner of the meeting The conditions of the fifth race stipulated that the starters be the property of owners who had not won a race at the present meeting This brought together a mixed band of ordinary caliber Gupton threatened to make an exhibition of the others by sprinting into a long lead rounding the first turn but after he had gone three quarters began to tire and at the finish was beaten by a head by After Night for second place The winner turned up in Jack Hill which was a follower for the first quar ¬ ter He worked his way up around on the outside rounding the far turn and at the top of the stretch caught and passed Gupton GuptonHerron Herron winner of the Cuban Derby of 1920 scored his first victory of the present meeting when he finished in front in the sixth race a dash of a mile and fifty yards Herron made all the pace and after shaking off Indian Chant in the backstretch beat Lank by a length and a quarter The latter was two lengths in front of Johnny OConnelL OConnelLG G WILLIAMS RIDE COUNTS COUNTSG G Williams put up a powerful ride on Ad ¬ vance and was in the main responsible for the latters victory in the third race when he beat Redmon by a head The latter was a nose in front of Salamander The first three staged a great stretch battle The start was rather poor the last three leaving the post very slowly Port Light which fin ¬ ished fourth closed with a great burst of speed and was going fastest of all at the end endTodays Todays visitors at the clubhouse included F B Bowes vicepresident of the Illinois Central Railroad W E Schneidt of Chica ¬ go president of the Roseland State Savings Bank J E Biackmore of Detroit Mr and Mrs L R Kenney of Brooklyn N Y Mr and Mrs L C Pangel of Columbus Ohio Mr and Mrs II D Ceefe of Dayton Ohio J H Williams of New York W T Find later of Detroit and Charles Smith who la a heavy stockholder in the Hamilton Ont race track Mr Smith is one of the prime movers of the contemplated meeting to take place in Columbus Ohio Several horsemen have signified their intention of shipping from here to Columbus ColumbusJockeys Jockeys Clements Williams and McDer mott were suspended for three days each by the starter
