MAGICIAN A REPEATER REPEATERFirst First Horse to Win Twice at the Mobile Meeting Grayson Takes Main Race from fromHerald Herald With Basse Pleasant PleasantWeather Weather Brings Big Crowd MOBILE Ala March 21 Bright sun Fhiny weather and a pragam that would not hot have been classified as bad on a much more pretentious track brought out a large crowd to witness the second day of racing o the Business Mens Racing Association On account of the inclement weather Tuesday many were inclined to believe that the city by the bay was losing some of its enthusiasm for racing but the belief was dispelled when the bugle sounded for the opening race raceBy By far the best race on the card was the fifth at one mile and it furnished the first winner of the day that came from behind the early pacemaker to win Grayson after be ¬ ing saved right at the heels of Herad for about threequarters challenged the latter at the head of the stretch and won in a canter through the last sixteenth Herald was sec ¬ ond and Financial Rooster third thirdOn On account of the light entries in this race only four started There was not the same interest displayed in the race as in the races Avith more numerous starters Marimba was an even money favorite favoriteAfter After having suffered several cuts on the hind legs yesterday O Wendels Grandee came back today and accounted for the opening race in easy fashion Grandee proved much the best being forced to over ¬ come repeated interference while going down the backstretch where he was held in close quarters by Atkinson astride of Happy Girl While rounding the last turn Happy Girl tired slightly and Moore sent Grandee through next to the rail with a rush into a good lead and won gong away Fitter Patter came fast in the last eighth and took second place from the tiring Happy Girl by a length lengthC C A COMISKEY FI11ST FI11STG G Drumhcllcr won his first race of the meeting when C A Comiskey took the sec ¬ ond dash by five lengths from the outsider Dahina which in turn outstayed Pat llamp Kon by a head for second place R Rice who had the mount on Ruggles got the Frizzle gelding off in a tangle and he was a follower throughout Mary G which won yesterday received a poor ride but she lacked speed and never proved a contender contenderCrest Crest with E Martin in the saddle proved the winning combination in the third race with Aunt Deda second and Babylonian third Starter Snyder secured a perfect start in this race and the field raced to the first turn heads apart Crest however proved to have the most speed and the veteran jockey rushed him to the front on the back stretch into a two length lead Rounding the last turn Aunt Deda which was racing in second place moved up with a menacing challenges but while passing beneath a cen ¬ tury year old oak tree where the going was holding she stumbled and lost ground De ¬ spite the fact that Rice placed her into Ifer stride quickly she could never overtake the leaders Babylonian raced into third place after going a quarter and maintained that position for the remainder of the race raceEASY EASY FOIl JAGO JAGOW W D Bernhardts Marathon gelding Jago found the going to his advantage and took the fourth race from Search Light III and Jacobean with ease easeSt St Just raced forwardly for a half mile but quit when entering the stretch and gave way to Jacobean which slipped through next to the rail and appeared to hold second place safe In the last seventy yards the Polyme lian gelding tired and Search Light III wore him down for second place placeThe The track today showed remarkable im ¬ provement and instead of the stickiness which many believed would prevail it was slow slowMagician Magician proved the first twotime winner of the meeting when he won the final race of the day from Ardito and Harvest King Magician was held at extremely short odds by the oralizers as his victory was held to be almost certain but only hard riding on the part of jockey Bell gained the decision for the S Jones colorbearer colorbearerSandalwood Sandalwood bled badly after the running of the fourth race raceJockey Jockey Rice was suspended for three days by starter Snyder for misbehavior at the post in the second race raceEdward Edward Corrigan a prominent factor In Western racing fifteen years ago visited the Fair Grounds today as a guest of his nephew Francis Dunne who is the official timer at this meeting Mr Corrigan is nov residing at Ocean Springs Miss Ho ap ¬ pears in excellent health despite his four score years or more displaying no latigue after renewing acquaintances with his nu ¬ merous friends
