April 19.— There wre three horses sent to the post by the ;arths this afternoon and each was returned a winner. It has proved a Garth meeting from the first race and the clan of the Virginians are having- a wonderful 102:! loginning. ■ The real triumph of today-was when Blaze-*, winner of the Harford Handicap on the opening day. came back with the fastest three-quarters of the meeting in taking toe Aero Handicap, the best race of the day. Blazes ran his three-quarters in 1:12 1-5 and beat Brookholt and Hildur. the top weight, was a close third. The first Garth success was when young Woods Garth took the two-year-old dash witti Helen Cook. The others were with the horses :f J. S. Gosden when Gold Foyle won the steeplechase and Blazes took the main race. There was a fivorable change in the weather and conditions were much more pleasant. The track condition had also improved and all this resulted in a big crowd turning out. Of the seven that went to the post for the Aero Handicap, the Audley Farm Stahle was represented by Pegasus and Brookholt. while T. J. Heiley sent Richard T. Wilsons Sedg. field and Walter Salmons Superlative to the post. Those with Blazes and Hildur made four interests contending. Starter Milton had the horses off in cx-cell-nt alignment and right from the start Jiildur ;ind Blazes went out to show the way. They left the post with such a rush that they were soon well clear of the others and Brookholt was running third. KVMMSB SAVES JROIM. Ktimmer saved ground with Blazes and it was not until the stretch that he drew away slightly from Hildur. Near the end Hildur was coming again and his second move was a bit of a handicap to Brookholt. Leaving the hackstretch Brookholt was lengths back of the flying leaders, but after swinging for home he began to wear them clown. Scobie had him next to the rail and he was drawing up gallantly when his rider decided there was not room enough on the inside and pulled out to find a way on the stable. This cost Brookholt some ground Mi Kummt-r. ri ling his best with hands and heels, kept Blazes going long enough to win. but doing his level best. This rush of Brook-bolt beat Hildur for second place, although the Ross sprinler gave an excellent account of himself under his weight. The others were beaten off. Helen ook continued the Garth luck into the fourth day of the meeting when she ran off with the opening dash under the colors of Woods Garth. Beginning with a rush she at once raced into a long lead and the result was never in doubt. Aunt Jane took second place and out finished Roman Girl. Friday 13th was fourth, with the others pretty well strung out at the finish. OOI.D FOYI.KS STEKPI.ECHASK. After Woods Garths Helen Gook raced away with the opening dash there followed a victory for his dad when Gold Foyle won the steeplechase under the colors of .1. S. Gosden. Young Woods is an able assistant trainer and to him goes a share of the credit for the laPer success. Gold Foyle was ridden by Norman Kennedy and it made his batting average 1000, for he rode Le Marsouin to victory in tiie only other steeplechase that has been run at the meeting. Gold Foyle was well ridden all the way and at the end was being chased home by Patisierre, while Be Marsouin saved third money from St. Iaul. There were two mishaps in the race. Transpero unseated Rowan on the first turn of the field and Air Tan came down two fences from the finish. A rattling finish marked the finish of the mile and seventy yards of the fifth race when Pastoral Saraia in a hard stretch drive beat Kulalia home, with Valor third. There was a considerable delay at the post, soring which Dream of Allah was kicked by Kulalia and it may have affected her showing in the race. The start was an excellent one and Valor was first under way. while Top Sergeant met with some interference. Through-out the hackstretch Iastoral Swain, Kulalia and Trajanus chased after Valor, but the old fellow hung to his lead resolutely and as the others dropped away Iastoral Swain l » m -d up dangerous, while Kulalia was running fast outside of him. The battle was right to the end. where Iastoral Swain proved pood enough to win. while Kulalia also headed the tired Valor to take second place. Kpisode, from the stable of A. S. Wood- c onlaiucd on twelfth pase. M0REGARTHTR1UMPHS Continued from first page. liffe. won the sixth race when he beat Crank o Dawn home, with Mars land Belle finishing third. Crack o Dawn pel a fast pace, but in the stretch Episode got up and out-gamed him. The disgrace of the race was the performance of A. B. Alexandras Irish Kiss, trained by !. Alexandra and ridden by another Alexandra. On his Ww Orleans form, when he was ridden by Morris, h ! appeared to hold Bach a band safe, but under the Alexandra riding he did not have the ghost of a chance. It may be that Alexandra does not know how to sit on a horse, and if so he should be suspended for incompetency. If he was not doing ids best it goes without saying that he should be suspended. After the race the Alexandras lost their horse when he was claimed by Charles Caf-ferelli for ,200. The winner was also claimed and J. A. Cohom Lock him from A. y. Woodliffe for .lJ50.
