NEW RECRUIT TO RACING John Hertz of Chicago Buys Derby Candidate Chittagong, the Stallion Luke McLuke and Others. LEXINGTON, Ky., May 7.— John Hertz of Chicago, head of the Yellow Taxi Cab Company, will have a starter in the Kentucky Derby and there are many here who think he may have bought the winner of that great race when he concluded negotiations with J. O. and G. H. Keene for Chittagong. Furthermore, Hertz bought from the Messrs. Keene the good stallion Luke McLuke, sire of Chittagong and Alice Blue Gown and a host of other fast runners, and he also bought the brood mares Aunt Josie, Scrutiny, Koom Kaleh and Zahra and a half interest in the yearling fillies by Hourless from Avacado and Twilight Queen. He acquired August Belmonts one-third interest in these fillies and then bought a sixth interest from the Messrs. Keene. they owning the remaining one-half. Chittagong is to continue to be trained by "Ham" Keene and is to carry the Keene colors in the Blue Grass Stakes here next Wednesday, after which he is to race under the colors of his new owner, w.uch are to be based on the yellow that is distinctive of the line of cabs through which Hertz, a former newsparer writer, has made the fortune that now permits him to indulge the fondness he acquired for racing when he was a sports writer and later a commissioner for Colonel W. E. Applegate. «
