DUU DAY AT JAMAICA • Program of Claiming Races Furnishes the Entertainment. ♦ Prince of Umbria Runs a Good Race in Winning From Tnfter — King of the Spa In Canter. ♦ NEW YORK. N. T., May IS.— There was no stake race down for decision at Jamaica today and all of the races, except a five-eighths dash for two-year-olds, were under claiming conditions. Pleasant weather attracted another good crowd. The Montana Claiming Handicap at a mile and seventy yards was given the feature position on the card. This race resulted in a driving victory for C. G. Heywangs Prince of Umbria, with Tufter second and All Over third. Prince of Umbria and Tufter dominated the running all the way. Callahan sent Prince of Umbria into the lead while going to the first turn and was drawing away in the early part of the rush down the back-stretch. There was a closing up as the field approached the turn out of the baokstretch and Tuftor appeared to menace Prince of Umbria for a time, but the latter held his advantage gamely under Callahans riding in the stretch and, although P.abin was hard at work on Tufter all through the last quarter, he was unable to overhaul the leader. In fact. Prince of Umbria was drawing away slightly at the finish to win by a length and a half and ran an excellent race. All Over held third place safe by a length at the finish after racing in that position practically all the way. Irish Kiss, from the C Cafferelli stable, showed little speed and never raced into contention, although he beat Overtake, the only other starter to the finish. The only race of the day not under claiming conditions was the Willoughby Purse at five-eighths of a mile for two-year-olds. With- | drawals of the two J. S. Cosden entries left only five youngsters to face the barrier. W. 1 M. Jeffords Cockney raced into the lead , while going to the turn, with Mad Play. J from the Rancocas Stable, closely lapped on , him. Margaret Lawrence was racing along J in third position. Young M. Fator called on Mad Play on the stretch turn and he quickly . raced up to Cockney, which was tiring and came on to win by three parts of a length J in a drive. A moderate field of two-year-old maidens faced the barrier in the claiming race at five-eighths, which opened the program. Mrs. ! W. M. Jeffords Stormalong raced well and got up in the final eighth to beat Buzz Saw by a half length, while Goldmark was third : four lengths further back. William Daniels King of the Spa won the second race in a canter from Firing Devil | and Pietrus. This race was at a mile and , seventy yards for platers which ban not won at the meeting and King of the Spa made a show of the trashy horses opposed to him. *
