SECRETARY EDWARDS DEAD NEW YORK, N. Y., May 13.— The news that secretary Walter C. Edwards of the Metropolitan Jockey Club had died in the morning at his residence, 407 Clare-mont avenue, Brooklyn, was a shock to his many friends when they reached the Jamaica course. Mr. Edwards, who came from an old New York family, was a member of the staff of the Brooklyn Eagle years before he was induced to accept the secretaryship of the organization he served so efficiently since 1905. He was more than secretary during all that period and was intrusted with much of the work that falls to a general manager. He was popular with horsemen and public alike in filling a difficult position.
