JAMAICA NEWS BRIEFS C. Buxton has transferred the contract on apprentice A. Sigholz to J. A. Coburn. B. A. Lane has sold the two-year-old filly Elfie Cecile to Frank Byer. Percy Humphrey of the Maryland Jockey Club was an arrival from Baltimore. King of the Spa was claimed out of the second race by Samuel Louis for ,305. L. T. Bauer has arrived at Belmont Park from Pimlico with his stable. W. B. Jennings, former trainer for A. K. Macomber, was an arrival from California. Master Hand was claimed Friday after his victory by J. A. Coburn for ,240. Frank Steinhart, Havana owner and breeder, arrived Saturday from Cuba for an extended visit. A new wire fence is to be erected around the entire property of the Maryland Jockey Club. Jake Byer announced that Dot, his fast three-year-old filly, will be shipped to Kentucky for the Kentucky Oaks after the running in the Southampton Handicap at Jamaica Tuesday. Negotiations have practically been completed whereby August Belmont will obtain second call on the services of the promising apprentice rider G. Rose, who is under contract to C. C. Cafferelli. The "shed row" along Belvidere avenue is to be demolished. The Thomas Clyde stable will be replaced with a new and modern building and a new barn will be built for William Garth. G. E. Hall arrived Friday from Pimlico to to engage stable room at one of the local courses for his horses. The Maryland Jockey Club has notified horsemen stabling at the Pimlico track to vacate their stables during the summer, as improvements are to be made. John Shields, who arrived from Baltimore Saturday, reported that his brother William Shields, trainer for W. S. Kilmer, is recovering rapidly from his recent serious illness. The trainer will remain at his home in Philadelphia for some time, however, for a complete rest.
