LAURELS OCTOBER MEETING 1 Total of 30,960 Distributed in Twenty-Three Days of Racing. Grcentrco Stablo Largest Money "Winner Itialto and Sarazcn Leads the Horses L. McAtco Takes Hiding Honors. The Maryland State Fairs annual meeting at Laurel was held from October 2 to October 27, and during the twenty-three days of racing, a total of 161 races were decided and 5330,960, a daily average of 4,3S9, was distributed in stakes and purses. Of the owners taking part in the racing, the Greentree Stable was the most successful, horses from that establishment accounting for 5,480 of the prize money. J. S. Cosden also figured prominently, his color bearers winning nine races and 6,475. The Fair Stable, owned by Mrs. AV. K. Vandcrbilt, through the prowess of the unbeaten Sarazcn, added to its coffers the sum of 2,705. The Glen Riddle Farm Stable was another that met with a goodly measure of success, with S,990 to show for the winning performances of its horses. Rialtos victory in the "Washington Handicap, the richest stake of the meeting, places his name at the head of the best of the money winning horses, with 4,450 to his credit. The all conquering Sarazen comes next, his three winning races, including the special with Happy Thoughts, yielding the goodly sum of 2,705. Dunlin, with one stake victory and a second in another, holds third place with 2,675. The training honors fell to Max Hirsch, who saddled ten winners. W. Garth was a close second with nine ; G. R. Tompkins third with eight, and J. G. "Wagnon fourth with seven. Li. McAtee rode the largest number of winners, nineteen out of sixty mounts for a percentage of 32. B. Legere was second with sixteen victories, C. Lang third with fifteen and P. Walls fourth with fourteen. Nine stake races were run during the meeting and in every respect the racing was high class and interesting to the record crowd that witnessed it.
