FAIR GROUNDS NOTES Jockey Scobie departed Monday night for his home in Cincinnati. Frankie Murphy was granted a license by the stewards. Murphy will ride here as a free lance. Douglas Fisher, a youngster hailing from Toronto, has been granted a license and will ride for B. E. Chapman. W. M. Sheedy, well-known horseman, who recently underwent an operation for appendicitis, is recovering rapidly. Good Night, owned by Harry Payne Whitney, was sold privately by trainer Mose Gold-blatt to S. Gooch. Forty-five operators quoted prices this afternoon. This is the record number that has been on this season at either track. Robert Shannon, Avell-known trainer, was among the arrivals today. Shannon has four horses wintering at Churchill Downs. James F. OHara, interested in the Jefferson Park, Bowie and Thorncliffe Park racing plants, was an arrival here today from Hot Springs. Friends of "Con" Keefe, well-known and popular eastern operator, received advices Sunday of his death. Mr. Keefe had been in poor health for some time. Horsemen were anxious to run for the second purse of Tuesdays card. Racing secretary McLennan had forty to exclude after drawing the fourteen starters. Friends of Mike Sass, veteran bookmaker, are much concerned over his condition. Mr. Sass was taken suddenly ill Sunday and had to be removed to a local hospital, suffering from pneumonia. Louis Cornell, a local boy. has applied to the stewards for riding privileges. He is attached to the stable of Louis McCrine. Another applicant is A. Roach, who is under contract to M. J. Reid. Mose Goldblatt left last night for Cincinnati, where he went to transact some private business and confer with trainer James Rowe with reference to some of the horses now being trained by Mr. Goldblatt for Harry Payne Whitney.
