CULVER CITY RACING OFF Announcement of Shut-Down to January 26 Taken as Sign of Failure of "Betless" Meeting LOS ANGELES, Cal., Jan. 7. The "bet-less" meeting atCulver City, which has been run there since Christmas Day under the auspices of the Southern California Jockey Club, was virtually declared off when Dick Ferris, president of the club, announced that the plant would shut down until January 26. Ferris gives as a reason for the closing the necessity of finishing the construction" work on the plant and adds that every creditor will be paid. It is further intimated S. T. Maloney has succeeded Ferris as manager and that a new board of control will be named. The horsemen took charge of the gate Sunday.
