BELIEVES HE GOT BARGAIN - Anderson Elated Over Youngsters Bought at Saratoga. Cantrell Severs Connections with C. H. Irwin Stable Reserving Dominique Until Owner Arrives from East. SAN DIEGO, Cal., Feb. 13 W. T. Anderson, who. last fall, purchased nine yearlings at the Phil Chinn auction sale at Saratoga, is highly elated with his youngsters and is of the opinion that he struck a bargain when he paid an aggregate sum of 9,400 for the band. George Dodge, who formerly raced the good horse A. Muskoday in the good old days of racing at Emeryville and Ingleside, is an arrival hero from San Francisco to spend the remainder of the meeting. Jockey F. Cantrell has severed connections j witli the C. B. Irwin establishment and will henceforth ride here as a free lance. Irwin J has acquired the contract of jockey W. Mc- Knight, who will do the lightweight riding fcr the stable. M. A. Gunst, prominent merchant of San Francisco, for whom the M. A. Gunst Selling Stakes were named when racing was in its i heyday at Emeryville, Calif., heeded the call of the thoroughbred and came down from the northern metropolis to spend a brief holiday. Other prominent San Franciscans that are, here are Sheriff Thos. Finn and Judge Vanj Nostrom. j J. B. Humphreys, owner of Little Chief,; put in his appearance here from his home in Denver. Humphreys, who is a man ofi great wealth, is a polo player of more than j ordinary ability and spends the winter each; season at Coronado playing in the polo matches during the season. J. W. Bean, who recently sold the fast two-year-old Wheaton at New Orleans, is an arrival here from the Crescent City. I Kimball Patterson has voiced his intentions of not starting Edward Arlingtons Domi- j nique until his owner arrives here. Arlington is en route to California by boat and is ex-1 pected to put in his appearance here within the next few days.
