BLACK GOLDS FAST WORK NEW ORLEANS, La., March 4. The most phenomenal work of the winter was recorded Tuesday morning at Jefferson Parle when Black Gold, Mrs. R. M. Hoots Louisiana Derby candidate, carrying 112 pounds and jockey J. D. Mooney up, ran seven-eighths in 1 :27. Fractions for Black Golds trial were: Quarter, 23and; half, 43; five-eighths, 1:00; three-quarters, 1:13, and seven-eighths, 1:27. The colt was sent on an extra eighth, covering the mile in 1:45, but his rider was slowing him down to a canter , the last eighth. Horsemen discussing the work pointed out that in his gallop this morning Black Gold ran the last eighth in 13 seconds, a full second better than his trial of last Saturday.
