FAIR GROUNDS FINE MEETING Successful from a Racing Standpoint, but Financially Disappointing No Profits. NEW ORLEANS, La., March 4. The fifty-four days meeting of racing just terminated at the Fair Grounds was highly successful from a racing standpoint. Financially it was disappointing and far below the expectations of the management The attendance was considerably curtailed as a result of inclement weather conditions and there seemed to be a shortage of money for the greater part of the racing period. There was a big falling off in the number of ring operators. Increased overhead expenses for the association also has made big inroads in the associations profit. The sport has been wholesome; far better than usually found at winter meetings, and the officials who had the racing in charge are to be highly lauded for their splendid supervision over the sport Wednesday the racing scene shifts back to Jefferson Park, where it will continue for eleven days, terminating March 17, when the Louisiana Derby, with 5,000 added, will be decided. Two other Derby candidates, Rinkey and Dazzler, from the Greentree Stable, showed up extremely well. The pair galloped a mile in 1:45. After the work trainer Phillips expressed himself as well satisfied with the training of his colt and filly.
