"NORTHER" VISITS DOWNS Track Frozen Over Sunday Morning Wise Counsellor and Worthmore Work. LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 17. The Churchill Downs track was frozen and rough on Sunday morning, due to a "norther" which came Saturday night. The course, however, thawed out toward noon and several of the horses which failed to get their regular work during the morning were galloped in the afternoon. John S. Ward sent Wise Counsellor and Worthmore a half mile in 53. This is the first time this year the Kentucky Derby favorite has been asked to go that far. It was creditable work, as the two colts had to gallop in the center of the track, as the going was sloppy and deep next to the rail, due to the thaw. After jogging a couple of miles the colts ran the half as a windup to their work. The first quarter was timed in 2G and the half in 55, with both colts ligthing for their heads. Wise Counsellor looks as if he was ready to go a mile at about a 1:45 clip right now. He is training nicely and his owner-trainer is delighted with the progress lie is making toward rounding into Derby condition. Peter Coyne had out during the morning King Gorin II. and Bourbon Boy, the two eligibles he is training for the Derby. They were not asked to go faster than a canter on account of the condition of the track. Both colts look to be training nicely and ready to take their work regularly from now on. j
