i j I j j i I I j I i j I , i j i | TRAINER SMARTS CHARGES ♦ — Twenty-Six Horses in Public Stable at the Old Benning Track. • Fifteen of These Will Carry the Colors of Samuel Ross Daring the Season of 19S4. ♦ « WASHINGTON. D. C. April 2.— One of the largest stables which wintered at the old Benning track here is that in charge of Matt Smart. This trainer has charge of a public stable of twenty-six horses belonging to eight different owners. ■ • The largest string in his charge is that of Samuel Boss, the Washington sportsman, i which numbers fifteen head and includes i jumpers as well as fiat racers. There are, seven two-year-olds in the Boss band and! | they are a promising looking aggregation. Smart has been quite successful in training ! cross-country horses in years past and he , has a number of good jumpers in his charge, He has three cross-country riders under con- tract. There are A. Barrett, C. Smoot and G. Vass. He has two horses for W. C Seipp : three for Mrs. K. Smart, and one each for W. Skinker. the Audley Farm Stable, Frank lierold, J. P. Skinker and B. Harding.
