MONTREAL RACING SEASON Mount Royal Plans Opening on May 17 — Expect Difficulty in Getting Horses. MONTREAL.. Que.. April 11. — Ordinarily the opening of the Montreal racing season would be but a month away, and plans would bo well Bottler way for the summer circuit. but. judging by expressions of opinion in racing circles today, matters are very much up in the air. Tom IMtggan. before leaving for Niagara Falls, announced that the Mount Royal race track would open proceedings on May 1". but the opinion was expressed today that th:s dad- was tentative, though advanced by Manag-T Puggan as definite-Montreal tracks expect to have difficulty in getting horses this year, particularly those tracks which operated in the Quebec Breeders Circuit— a body which, by the way, has now gone out of existence. The establishment of a big circuit in Western Canada, with eight weeks of racing in British Columbia alone, the ooal inuance of the Ohio and West Virginia tracks, and other opposition has now come to be formidable and will take away many horses which formerly raced here. The fact lhat the interests which control Delorimier and Kempton tracks have turned their attention to baseball may forecast their exit from local racing. Manager ]. o ] an-duran of Delorimier and Kempton said today he had made absolutely no preparations whatever for racing at either of these tracks. and was very uncertain as to what would be done. 11 • said there was little likelihood of openinK Kempton and it was well within the bounds of possibility that Delorimier would not open unless racing matters in the province were put on a more definite basis, plans for which are under way. including establishment of a provincial circuiL ••e feel that the track owners must make some sacrifices if the sport is to continue." said Manager Dandurand. "We have not heen asked to close Delorimier. but are quite prepared to do so if required."
