• 1 J. B. JOELS GREEN FIRE Winner of Greenham Plate, Feature of Opening Day of the Newbury Meeting. LONDON, Eng.. April 11. — The Greenham Plato race of the opening day of the New-! bury spring meeting was won this afternoon by J. B. Joels three-year-old chestnut colt. Green Fire, by Sunstat — Green Cloth, which beat the favorite, A. B. Coxs bay colt. Caravel, by a head. Ford Woollavingtons chestnut i;olt. Despatch, finished third, beaten by two lengths. Sixteen ran. Steven Donaghue, Englands leading jockey over the fiat for nine years, had the mount on Gr.t-n Fire, scoring his first success of the year. The Creenham Flate is for three-year-olds and is run over one mile straight course. The race has a value of 1,000 sovereigns.
