Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of May 22, 1904 Sunday, no racing. Ormonde, the incomparable, winner of the triple crown and a great sire in England, but a failure in that respect in this country, is reported to have been put to death in California today, by chloroforming, because of incurable infirmities. An authentic statement was made by a member of the Jockey Club that no attempt would be made to buy up the Aqueduct track. It was further stated that Aqueduct would receive the usual quota of racing dates next year and for many years to come, unless the owners of the track decide to sell. The ranks of the available riding material now at Morris Park were increased recently by the arrival of J. Jones from California. Jones was quite a rider in the closing days of the San Franckco meetings, making a record of thirteen winners in a week and thirty three in a month. He can ride at 94 pounds. He has no engagement, but probably will do much of the riding for the stable of R. T. Wilson, Jr.
