i i I i . 1 BLACK GOLDS BLOOD LINES i An impression has spread abroad somehow that the gallant Derby winner Black Gold is short bred on his dams side. He is cleanly bred as any of the colts he defeated in that magnificently contested race. Useeit could and did run fast, but not far. That is no reproach. Some of the most renowned brood mares of all time were afflicted in the same way, but foaled great racers and great stayers notwithstanding. A further extension of Useeits pedigree than is given here would show that Uncle Tcm is a son of the fine ra.cer ; , and sire of long ago Uncle Vic, and Miss Cheatham was a daughter of Bill Cheatham of I Tennessee fame and an English mare by Sovereign. There is nothing the matter with Useeits pedigree, nor with Black Golds pedigree.
