J. Mackenzie Memorial Handicap, the Principal Racing Offering. • TORONTO, OnL, May 31. — The largest crowd that has been at Thorncliffe Park during the present meeting witnessed Saturdays racing at the Leaside course, fully fifteen thousand people being on hand when the bugle called the horses to the post for the first race. Fine weather prevailed and contributed to make the sport enjoyable. For a feature offering the Thorncliffe Park Racing and Breeding Association presented the R. J. Mackenzie Memorial Handicap for three-year-olds and over at one mile and a sixteenth, that was worth ,865 to the winner. The race was won by the Triple Springs Farms Opperman, a five-year-olds son of Pataud and Dancing Wave. Pressing him closely at the end was J. Farrells Dr. OMara, which showed suddenly improved form over his previous races. Lathrop, bearing W. K. Harringtons silks, finished third, j After a short delay at the post the field was dispatched in good alignment, with Lathrop dashing into a good lead, followed by Senator Norris and Fast Mack. Leaving the stretch turn Opperman moved up to the leader and soon thereafter he raced into the lead, with Senator Norris dropping back and Dr. OMara and Wilkes-Barre looming up menacingly. Lathrop gave way in the final eigthth and at this stage Dr. OMara came with a great display of speed and continuing in fine style under hartl urging, forced the winner to his utmost and only missed the victory by a scant length. Lathrop saved third place by a length and a half. The fourth race brought to the post a speedy field of sprinters and it resulted in victory for the Kenton Stables Sarko. Mc-• Taggart got him away from the post with a rush and he led for the entire five and a half furlongs. The struggle for place honors was a spirited one, Mary Rose just lasting long enough to outstay the fast-closing Big Heart. Arendal scored Impressively In the final raco, for which he was favorite. He set a ; fast pace throughout and scored by two i lengths over Kinsman. True American closed with a big rush and was up In the last strides to take third from Sangrado. The Kenton Stables Dellahm ran away | one mile before the start of the second race, before jockey Gantner could pull him up. In i the running Dellahm raced well up with the ■ ] leaders for the first half, but dropped back : | | thereafter and finished last of the field of ten. The race was won by Juno Fly, but only • after a hard drive in wh!ch she outstayed 1 the fast-closing Beth Hodder, to win by a i head. Balsam Lake finished third. W. Campbells McKenna. Wallace waited with Wraith until rounding the turn for home, when ho sent the son of Malamont to the front and, under a good ride ho drew out near the end to win In hand by a length und a half. W. W, Woollatt, general manager of Devonshire Tark, Windsor, Ont., has been here all week allotting stable accommodation to the different winners shipping to his track. Mr. Wooliutt announced that the city council of Windsor had taken over the golf course located on his premises as a municipal course, und shall immediately proceed to finish the links to have sama open for public playing immediately following Devonshires second meeting. Books for tho coming meeting at Stamford Parte wore distributed this morning amongst tho horsemen. Bennie Jacobs has been busy among the horsemen giving out tho books for DufEertn Iiak meeting. First claim of tho meeting resulted with tho running of tho sixth race Thursday when W. Walker claimed Cote dOr for ,400.
