BAFFLING AND BLIND Form Winning Combination for E. R. Bradley at Latonia. Crack Colt Reputation Upholds His Reputation By Scoring Fifth Straight Victory. LATONIA, Ky., June 11.— The Idle Hour Farm Stable finally graduated into the winning ranks at Latonia when the E. R. Bradley-owned . colt Baffling scored impressively . over some good ones starting in the Miami 1 Valley Handicap, at three-quarters. The ; Greentree Stables erratic Exodus finished 1 second and Gifford Cochrans Sun Flag : wound up in third place. Dustabout. Great t Jaz and Pindar Peel were the unplaced ones. The substitution of Blind for Carroll i worked a big improvement in Baffling s running. He began with the leaders and under I a hustling ride moved promptly into a good lead, enabling his rider to choose the better part of the track to finish the journey. Blinds riding was the best he has shown in I eome time. He made no blunders in picking the firmer strips and it enabled Baffling to "Wjn by as big a margin as the rider elected. Exodus was a forward factor from the Start, but it required hard urging to keep him in front of Sun Flag. The latter had 1 an extensive following and he might have been much closer up but for a pc-cr send-off. ■ It was the first time that Hum has gotten 1 away his mount poorly from the post during the Kentucky meetings. One cf the most difficult racing strips that has bren seen in this section prevailed for Wednesdays racing and It required a combination of strong rider as well as sturdy typo racer to negotiate it with any degree J of success. TRACK IN BAD CONDITION. Some of the diminutive apprentice riders who had mounts during the aft°rnoon were . totally lielpless and their mounts floundered apd sprawled all over the track, completing -I I their tasks instinctively. Later in the after- . I noon threatening clouds enveloped the - I grounds, presaging more rain. The attendance, considering the adverse I weather, was surprisingly large and they f seemed to enjoy the sport immensely, judging by their enthusiasm. The crack celt Reputation added another r victory, the fifth straight, to his list when • he beat home some highly regarded juveniles 3 he met in the sixth race. He was a pronounced favorite and justified the confident-0 i in which he was held, for he never left *- the result in doubt and led from the start. • He was hustled some near the end and he B might have not been partial to the rough 1 going. Saar, coupled with Cinnamon, coming with a rush, outstayed Annie Jcrdan. • The latter just beat out Buttin In for third plae. Buttin In raced greenly, but came e through the stretch with tremendous speed i and was fast overhauling the leaders near the end. The introductory number brought an upset t in its wake and enabled H. T. Batchler, a veteran Texas owner, to score his first purse . of the Kentucky season when his Mcintosh led home a band of platers and won by a comfortable margin over the favorite Sandalwood, with Longboat following in third place. Mcintosh took most kindly to the difficult j going and under Pools energetic riding he a assumed a long lead and held the others safe 3 for the entire way. Sandalwood raced gamely . but floundered on occasions under the weak handling he had from the diminutive Ellis. He held on well near the end and outstayed j ■ the fast-going Longboat, which had come I | from far back in the stretch. Romping Home r, I and Sakah were strong contenders until I I reaching the stretch, where they faded fast. JOCKEY POOL TO FORE. Jockey Pool brought home his second successive " winner when astride Kublai Khan, owned by his contract employer. A. B. Hancock. t The colt had seven other juveniles as s opponents to negotiate the five-eighths. . I ! Kublai Khan began well and under energetic B| riding moved promptly into the lead and j | i showed the way to the others for the entire e I | journey. Karachi, coupled with Tangaia, as s ! j the .1. N. Camden entry, raced forwardly y . I but began tiring during the last eighth, but . I was good enough to land in f.econd place. , Brown Sugar, a first timer owned by E. R. j . Bradley, raced green but gamely and out- I stayed Gamester for third place. Continued on sixteenth page. J | j I j J i | l j j j i I | BAFFLING AND BUND Continued from first page. Dobson was pounds the best of the starters ; in the third race and after being allowed to , drop far out of it in the first half mile came . around thereafter at his leisure and wore down Norseland, which had previously dis- posed of Annie Lyle. The latter had scant t opposition for third place, as Post Dispatch l and London Smoke had given way steadily - when reaching the stretch. There were only five starters in the race, with Dobson the favored one. The fourth race, substituted for the original, - which was declared off, brought about t the longest-priced winner cf the meeting when Chaplet won from Napoo, with Reel 1 Foot in third place. It was over the mile - and seventy yards, with six starting and 1 Flower Shop, a victress Tuesday, the fav-I - ored one over Napoo. Flower Shop found 1 the going too rough to negotiate and she 2 was never seriously a contender. The winner should have been Napoo, which i raced as if pounds the best, but J. Woods 3 gave an amateurish exhibition and had him l all over the track, totally at a less of what t to do. He just managed to save second i [place and had the finish been, a trifle farther r | 1 - 1 - 1 2 i 3 l t i r | he would have relinquished the middle por- tion of the purse. Fancy Free was one of the five offending favorites during the afternoon. Her defeat came in the closing race, won by Blowing Bubbles, which scored impressively. Eancy Free almcst fell at the first turn, where she stumbled, but she came resolutely in the stretch on the firmer strip and near the end tired, just succeeding in outstaying Stump Jr. for second place. J. McGee, owner of Blowing Bubbles, claimed Fancy Free at a cost of l.uDOj
