. . 1 ; 1 : t TO BRING NO "DEAD TIMBER", Horsemen Shipping to Hawthorne to Send Only Horses Ready and in Condition to Race. John Carey, who is looking after the affairs of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association at Omaha, yesterday wrote that horsemen intending to ship here were cutting down their lists to the horses ready to race, to conform to the policy of the association to eliminate dead material and in this way take care of everybody who wants to ship here. C. B. Irwin will cut his big string to a car load, while W. C. Weant, R. L. Baker and Ben Jones, who are coming among others, will also conform to the policy. The entries of All Over and Abadane from the Irwin string were received for the Independence and Labor Day Handicaps. John Randolph arrived at the track with four horses. The contract for painting the grand stand and paddock was let to C. H. Morgan and Company and the work will start this morning. The contract for beautifying the ground was let to the Vaughan Seed Store and a big force will be put at work laying out shrubbery and flower beds. The Illinois Central yesterday started an unloading platform 150 feet long to take care of the shipment of horses. This will be a great convenience to horsemen, as four cars can be unloaded at one time. *
