WILKES-BARRE TRIUMPHANT Reduces Connaught Park Mile Record in Beating Redstone. ; Brilliant Jester Tails Badly, rinlzhlng Third to Loveliness and Tarascon, Palling Up Xaiae. OTTAWA. Out. Aug. 20. Well ridden by IT. Howard. Wilkes-Barre ran a milo in 1:39 and reduced the track record in winning the Aylmer Purse thi3 afternoon. The race featured the second days program of the Connaught Park Jockey Clubs second meeting. Three competed with the Triple Springs Farms colt. Redstone finished, second, War Man third and Delusive fourth. " In the first lialf mile it appeared as if Itedstonc was slated for an easy victory. He went to the front without effort in the dash for the first turn and bad only the low classed War Man to keep him company. In the backstrctch Redstone began to draw, away from War Man. increasing the appearance of an easy victory. In U13 meanwhile Wilkes-Barre was eight lengths off the leader. Howard was Tiding him patiently. Around the second turn he saved ground with the son of Ballot and sieadily reduced the lead of thi pacemaker. Just before reaching ths stretch Howard guided a slightly wider coarse and hooked Redstone after turning into the lane. At the eighth post the pacemaker was still half a length in front but tiring. From there on Wilkes-Barre drew away gradual", winning by a length. War Man was six lengths farther tack at the end of the mite. In keeping with the usual hab"t the crowd improved slightly in size over that of the opening. The weather was pleasant, although cloudy, and the track was fast. Odd Seth followed the lead closely In the third, -earns to the center of the track straightening out. but got up in the closing strides to win by a neck from Oil 3 tan. Black Baby, th early pacemaker, was third at the end of the three-quarters. Sharps donned the silks of C B. Shafer to ride tha winner. Brilliant Jester failed in the fourth When he met a bad lot and finished third under a perfect ride in a race at a mile. Xioreliness won the race for J. D. Misick, with Baker astride. Brass Tacks made the pace with Brilliant Jester following closest under restraint to the far turn. There he went to the front but tired in the stretch. Loveliness passed him in the final eighth and Tarascon "in the final sixteenth. He pulled up lame. Petition cams to the outside of Seven Oaks and Wych Elm after following them to the iap of the stretch in the first race and "won under -restraint by three-quarters of a length I at the end of five and a half furlongs. Wych HTLm held on for second money four lengths in front of Benorion. The winner carried the silks of E. J. Morrow and was ridden by O. Bourassa. Fitzallan beat a poor band of Canauian-breds in the second. It Tvas at five and a lialf furlongs. Iv. Harrington had the T. Callary color bearer in front all the way .and won with him by three lengths. Mexican 3?ete ran second throughout and finished a ! aaeck in front of Pelf. t Ombrage carried IC Parrington in the silks ! of the Bon Valley Stable to a neck victory j oyer Teas Beady in the sixth race. Two lengths farther back at the end of the one mile came Watch Charm. Teas Beady made the pace but Ombrage wore him down 1 in a drive. Watch Charm followed the leaders closely throughout j A race at a mile and seventy yards brought the program to a close. Black Wand won : easing up and gave H. Howard his second ; winner of the afternoon, the latter thereby ; dividing with K, Parrington the Tiding honors for the day. Black Wand followed Jacques to the stretch and then took the lead easily.
