NOEL was practically left at the post, but his rider allowed him to settle into his stride, then raced to the leaders steadily and, taking the lead on the last turn, was cantering at the end. SKYSCRAPER set a good pace and raced POLO GROUND into defeat, but gave way to the winners rush. POLO GROUND quit. . . . OOOOyf SECOND RACE About 2 Miles. Long Lake Steeplechase. GLEN REAGH jumped well and, making the running under restraint, lost ground on the turns and -finished, very wide after taking the final jump, but .won by a safe margin. ADAMANT moved up resolutely when going to the fifteenth jump, but tired near the end and was hampered slightly when the winner swerved after taking the final jump. FLYING AL was- saved under restraint and came wide when entering the stretch, but -finished resolutely and, wearing WAX LADY down, was drawing clear at the end. WAX LADY eared . up while at the barrier and fell over backwards, but saved ground on the stretch turn and tired after taking a clear lead. LITHUANIA closed a big gap and finished fast. DICK WHITTINGTON was much used in racing BILL DWYER into : defeat and tired badly. MENTHOL moved up resolutely on the stretch turn, but lost much ground by. coming wide. SYLVAN SPRING ran well from the start and, racing into the lead on the backstrctch, was taken to the best going and held ROCK POCKET safe at the end. The latter, probably much the best, was poorly ridden and ran a good race under a disadvantage. HUON PINE ran fairly well and had no mishaps. BEAR GRASS ran poorly. Won easily; second and third driving, MIRADOR raced prominently from the start, moved up rapidly on the stretch turn and came wide in the best going and was going away at the end. STAR LORE raced under restraint to the stretch and. passed SUN TESS in the final seventy yards. SUN TESS raced into the lead near the finish, but tired when challenged. VOLANTE showed the most speed to the last eighth and tired. FAIR .VISION was kept in the deepest going.
