VICTORY FOR SANDY HATCH Beats Director in Stretch Duel in Kenilworths Main Race. . Bedford Scores Fourth Straight .Success-Big Increase in Attendance Favorites Do "Well. WINDSOR, Ont., Aug. 30. The fifth and feature race of the day at Kenilworth Park, a claiming handicap, was won by Clarence Buxtons Sandy Hatch after a brief stretch duel with George Peases Director, which beat the Kenton Stables "Viola Burton a length and a half for second place, with Stage Ccach and Mary Rose following in the order named. Mary Rose went to the front soon after the start, but Buxton lost no time with Sandy Hatch and was not content until he got the big chestnut son cf Ultimus In front and once there made every post a winning one. Lang, on Director, kept his mount in reserve to the stretch turn and it was at this point that he sent Director up to Sandy Hatch, but the latter proved gamest when the real racing began. Viola Burton was third after forcing the pace and her fractious actions at the barrier, which delayed tho start five minutes, may of had some bearing on 3ier showing in this race. There was a marked increase in the attendance and the talent had a good day, as the favorites were winning with marked regularity. The sixth race and secondary feature on the program brought to the post five horses and was won by E. Trotters Bedford, this making his fourth straight victory sine graduating from the maiden ranks. H. S-Harts Nancy Langhorne was the one to be second, two and a half lengths in front of E. "VV. Prices Leisch, which was half a length in front of Sweep By and Purity, tho two other starters. Nancy Langhorne was the one to cut out the pace, but she socn retired from the lead when "Wallace sent Bedford to the front turning into the stretch. It was here that Lang sent Leisch through next to the inside rail to finish third. Sweep By raced in third position for three-quarters and it is apparent he is only a sprinter. Purity seemed unable to untrack himself. The third race of the day brought out twelve cheap sprinters and J. Diggins Jaune-bar proved best, with J. A. Coburns Keenan racing to second place, while Carnarvon, from the stable of T. F. Devereaux, finished third. Off in good alignment, Carnarvon was first to show in front, with Jaunebar and Keenan racing in close pursuit They raced in the order named to the stretch where Continued on sixteenth rage. It was at this point that Keenan, which was forcing the pace, raced up to second position and Carnarvon, who was racing in third place, was taken wide and spoiled all chances he had of winning. The fourth offering, a mile and seventy yards claiming race, fell to Gath from the stable of D. Garrity, while Mrs. C. H. Smiths Norah showed improvement to be second and W. M. McKinneys Mary Maxim beat Mrs. J. W. Murphys Midnight Stories a nose for third. Gath lost no time after the start, went right to the front and led all the way, but had to be ridden out to beat the belate rush of Norah, which came fast from tho stretch turn. Mary Maxim, who raced in a forward .position, just lasted for third money. Mrs. J. W. Murphy, represented in the third race by Merry Land, claimed Keenan from J. A. Coburn for 00. Sam McBride, president of Kenilworth Park, is leaving today for Toronto to spend a few days at the exhibition of which he is one of the directors. G. R. Palmer, who is assisting Marshall Cassidy here, has been appointed to do the starting at the Maple Heights meeting, which starts September 6 and runs till September 20, inclusive. Palmer has shown great promise in his work at the barrier in all the meeting where he has officiated.
