LATEST TURF GOSSIP FROM NEW ORLEANS NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 4. L. Scully .arrived Tuesday from far-off Phoenix, Ariz., with three horses. Jockey Butwell was among; the late arrival:; from Bowie. He is under contract to Garth and Cosden, but will ride here as a free lance. J. W. "Bub" May is an arrival from the north with four horses belonging to Col. If. M Howard, Dayton, Ohio, sportsman. One of the quartet is a rp.endid looking filly by Itunnymede Clarise C. J. D. "Canada," Jack Adkins veteran trainer, is spending a few days hsre prior to going to Florida. At present he is not connected with any racing establishment, and has no horses of his own. Nine horses belonging to II. G. Bedwell have arrived in charge of trainer Fred Schelke. The list includes Modo, Grey Gables, Oppress, Applegatc, Cote dOr, Scotch Broom, Hazy and Clean. In addition to handling the good three-year-oid. Donaghee, for J. YV. Bean, trainer J. J. Murphy has tho horses Leatherwood, Sandral, Tippity Witchet, Carol and Marie Blanche, the property of various owners. Frederick Jo.vison, owner of a stable being trained by Tom Harmon at the Fair Grounds, arrived Thursday for an extended visit. He was at the track to look over his horses. The stable of Bert Williams, numbering twelve head of good horses, arrived at the Fair Grounds from Bowie Tuesday morning. Among the better known performers in the establishment are Dr. Hickman and Bill OFlynn. The stable that Logan Denny brought from Bowie comprises seven, headed by the good three-year-old, Ballot Brush. The other horses are Jolly, Ivory, Cinnamon and an unnamed two-year-old, and a fine-looking yearling by Zeus. The stewards decided to discontinue the rule of charging a declaration fee when there are eight starters or less. No one will be permitted to scratch when only eight entries remain in a race without good reason, but when a horse is excused ho fee will be charged.
