ALFRED KANE IS APPOINTED Frederick Johnson Engages Ken-tuckian to Assume Charge of Scarlet Gate Establishment. LEXINGTON, Ky., Dec. 20. Alfred Kan-3 has been engaged by Frederick -Johnson to take charge of the stallion Brown Prince and the band of mares at his Scarlet Gate Farm, near Lexington, and he will assume his duties January 1. Alfred Kane is the son of the late Ed Kane and Mrs. Elizabeth Kane, the present manager of the Nursery Stud. Alfred Kane was born at the Nursery Stud Farm, and has for several years been in charge of the stallions at that great establishment He is regarded as one of the most versatile young horsemen in this country, and Mr. Johnson is fortunate indeed in securing his services. One of the last letters written by the late Major August Belmont was to Alfred Kane, expressing regret at his resignation and telling him that he was hopeful that some day he would be manager of the Nursery Stud. Kenneth Kane, manager of Walter J. Salmons Meereworth Stur near Lexington, is a brother to Alfred Kane.
