HACKAMORE AT LONG ODDS Wins Sixth Race on Tijuanas Claiming Race Program. ♦ ,Io kc G. Johnson Captures Honors of the Hay, Piloting Two Winners — La Brae Stable Wins Second with lrinpton. ♦ SAN DIEGO, Calif.. April 15.— Nine claiming races, which attracted big fields of platers, provided the entertainment for the race fans at the border course of the Tijuana Jockey Club. No stellar attraction was offered, but the majority of races were closely contested and the finishes all that could be desired, and. in a measure, they made up for the lack of a feature. The honors for the day fell to a rider, L Johnson, whose saddle work bordered on the sensational. Johnson rode Room Mate, winner of the fourth, and then came back in the fifth to display his wares, winning with lllue Helle by the narrowest of margins from Marion North. Marion North was probably the best horse and Johnson must be credited with her defeat He kept Blue Belle j," ins when the latter gave every indication of quitting. An outstanding incident in the days racing was the victory of the long shot Hackamore. which won the sixth race easily at odds of 0.40 for the usual investment. It was Hackamore in front from start to finish, and when he was a three-lengths winner over Glanmore his followers gave vent to their enthusiasm by prolonged cheers. The Mira Monte Stock Farm colors scored an easy victory in the first when Driftwood Blaze began fast and gained a lead that was never in jeopardy. Shasta Sol. off slowly, gained steadily and overcame much interference and. finishing fast, got up for second place. Walter De B. was a forward contender all the way and hung on well in the final drive. Minnie Bomba began slowly and was hampered several times. Baggage King quit when the real racing began. Samaron and Sir Maurice left slowly and lost all chance. Irvington and jockey H. Elston proved a winning combination in the three-quarter mile second race, which attracted nine starters. Irvington sprinted into the lead after the first quarter and easily held sway to the end. Postman finished second after being a forward contender throughout, hanging on resolutely in the final drive. Aggie began slowly as usual, but came to the outside of the others on the last turn and beat out Donita for third. Donita ran in spots and was tiring fast in the stretch. Ijot of Stylu flattered her barkers by Liking the lead after the start and holding it for a quarter after which she fell to the rear and finished last. Kye Bright, perfectly handled, easily took the lead in the third turning for home and won with plenty of speed in reserve. High Olympus ran an improved race under good handling and had no trouble taking second. He was compelled to go to the outside of the others on the stretch turn but could never go to the winner. Johnny OConnell set the pace under sufferance and just lasted for third. Sea Green began slowly as usual and met with much interference, but she was gaining fast on Johnny OConnell at the finish. Shasta Springs moved up menacingly on the last turn and then tired. Boom Mate, favored by his feather weight and skillfully placed in the early running, scored a head victory over Monopoly in the fourth race. i, Johnson timed his run perfectly and just got his mount up in time. He looked an easy winner at the paddock but tired badly and barely lasted. Monopoly gained steadily rounding the last turn and slipixd through on the inside entering the stretch. He finished with a rush and would have won in another stride. Cancellation tired racing with lady Barrett but easily held third. Nas Ta Baga dropped back after a half then came again in the stretch and was going fastest of all. Lady Barrett quit badly after three-quarters. Jockey Johnson scored a double when he piloted J. Tellers Blue Belle to a victory in the fifth. He had ridden Boom Mate to first place in the previous race. Blue Belle was an odds-on favorite and never gave her backers a moments anxiety. She took the lead when ready and won as Bhe pleased. Marion North was her closest follower all the way and hung on well in the stretch. Miss Fryer was well up for a quarter then i was pinched back but finally got clear on the last turn and finishing fast, outstayed Lady I Leonid for the small end. Lady Ieonid had I a rough time but ran a good race.
