Va., April 15.— A series of claiming races made up the program at the Tri-State Fair Grounds this afternoon. The racing was staged under favorable conditions and was productive of interesting sport. Many of the finishes were decidedly close and form was fairly well observed. Only one of the seven events was over a distance of ground. This was the last race in which Tomahoi showed the way throughout. He was off forwardly but had to be ridden out in the stretch to retain a length advantage. In the final drive Captain Adams outstayed Feigned Zeal for second place. This marked the second victory of the day for jockey F. Woodstock and a double for trainer Matt Jordon. He had previously saddled Mary G., winner of the opening dash. After racing in close pursuit of Lottie Lor-aine to the stretch in the sixth. Betty Mae forged to the front a sixteenth out and held her opponents safe at the end. Havana Electric in a driving finish just held on long I enough to save second place from the fast I finishing Crestwood Boy. Baby Lane and P. T. Barnum displayed the most early speed in the fourth race, but entering the home stretch Clever Seth challenged and, overhauling Baby Lane in the last sixteenth, outgamed her in the closing stages and won going away. Frank Fogarty also displayed fine speed in the final drive I and closed with a rush on the inside near the end to beat the others for second money. Taking the lead shortly after the start Dora Lutz never left the issue in doubt in the fifth race. She made every post a winning one. Dr. F. T. Adams came from the rear in the stretch drive to nose Tulsa out for second place. Mary G., Lent and Zainer came to the wire I closely lapped in the first race and provided ! a stirring finish. Mary G. and Lent raced lapped all through the stretch, with Zainer I joining in the struggle during the final eighth. I Mary G. proved the gamest and was given the judges decision, while Lent barely lasted ! to save the place from Zainer. Bathilde Seth showed the way to the final Continued on sixteenth page. Fred Hatch, after racing well up all the way, tired and barely lasted to save third. After being closely pressed by Little Pal during the early stages, Charles Henry drew away to an easy victory during tie final drive in the third race. Little Pal was easily second best, beating the fast closing Black Ruler. The latter was a distant follower in the early racing but came with a great rush in the stretch but made his move too late. m
