TIJUANA RACING ENDS ■ About 00,000 Distributed During 125 Days of Meeting. — i General Thatcher Wins Au Revoir Handicap, the Big Feature of Closing Days Program. — — ♦ SAN DIEGO. Cal.. April 19.— The long winter meeting of 1924-1925 at the Tijuana Jockey Club track across the border came to an end today after 125 days of racing and approximately 00,000 had been distributed in stakes and purses. A tremendous crowd, only surpassed by the attendance of Coffroth Handicap day, journeyed to the Mexican course to witness the farewell program. The Nevada Stock Farm Stable of G. W. Wingfield was much in the limelight during the afternoon, furnishing the winners of the two feature races, General Thatcher winning the principal event, the Au Revoir Handicap and Thistle wood accounting for the secondary attraction, the La Gold Kina Handicap. General Thatcher, which failed by inches of winning the Coffroth Handicap, ran a smashing good race to annex the Au Revoir Handicap, which was a mile and a sixteenth, covering the distance in 1 :44%, thereby equalling the track record. Dr. Clark was the early pacemaker on sufferance and, when he tired. General Thatcher assumed command and withstood the fast-closing rush of Fabian. The latter waited too long in making his bid and came wide in the stretch. Dr. Clark hung on well in the final drive. Paula Shay loomed up strong entering the stretch, then tired. The La Gold Rina Handicap at three-quarters, run as the fifth race, was the supplementary attraction of the day and the lightly-weighted Thistlewood led all the way to win by a small margin, with Right on Time second and Swingalong third. The latter, despite his heavy impost of 132 pounds, would have won had Griffin made his move sooner. : It was not until well within the stretch before Griffin called on Swingalong and the son of Whisk Broom II. answered with a sensational rush that just failed of victory by a few strides. MP El KB TO LONG SHOT. A long shot in Waddell Bros. Nacomee, paying 2. GO for in the mutuels, won the inaugural dash of the afternoon with Lady Barrett second and Dan Arvi third. Nacomee was a forward contender from the start and steadily wore down Dan Arvi to win going away. Lady Barrett was always close up and finished fast. Dan Arvi set the pace to the last eighth, then tired and was out-gamed by Lady Barrett for second place. In a driving finish Insurance earned a head decision over Love Song in the mile and seventy yards of the second race. Bardalid was third. Insurance was lucky to escape the crowding just after the start and was in a good position all the way. She moved up strong entering the stretch and outgamed Love Song in a long drive. The latter waited on the pacemakers to the far turn, where she went into the lead, but could not quite last. Bardalid gained rround steadily after a rough trip. The mile and a quarter race, run as the third, fell to Harry Maxim, which beat Brimstone by a half length. Harry Maxim waited far" back to the last turn, where he mov.d up strong on the inside and, slipping through a small opening, wore down Brimstone in a hard drive. The latter showed the way to the last eighth before giving way to the eventual winner. The fourth was another race at one mile and a quarter, but Alamour was immeasurably best and had no trouble showing the way borne to the others. Miss Prosperity was just as easily second and Jay Roberts had no serious opposition for third place.
