I I V Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of April 20, 1905 Racing at Aqueduct, Pimlico, Nashville, San Francisco, Fair Grounds and Union Park at St. Louis. The free gate is still in vogue at St. Louis and there were over five thousand people at the Fair Grounds today. There was nothing sensational in the racing. The Texas delegation backed Joe Wooton for a good thing and scorched the ring. The sen of Gallantry barely lasted long enough to stall off Rolla. Cor-bletts Bay, from the string of Mont Tennes, ran away four miles while the horses were at the post for the second race. Sinister won the Peconic Handicap impres sively at Aqueduct this afternoon and made it a clean record for the Keene stable for the 1 day, Special License, the enly other entry from that barn, having won the opening race. W. M. Scheftel showed up a good youngster in 1 Prospero. He is a brother to Bensonhurst and | Bath Beach. He won his race in a canter after having been backed from 4 to 1 to 8 to 5. ■ The weather and track conditions were excellent fcr racing at Cumberland Park, Nash il!e, Tenn., today and fully 7,000 persons I witnessed the running of the Cumberland Der by, which fe.l to W. W. Dardens Ivan the , Terrible, ridden by J. Martin. Three lengths i back of the Darden racer was Besterling and a 1 length back of the latter was W. Gersts Mc-Clellan. Only four started and the net value to the winner was ,665. j 1
