Following the last race there was a general exodus of horsemen and race followers for Louisville. Quite a large number made the trip by automobile, while the late trains and special carried capacity crowds. The interval of two days between the close here and the opening at Churchill Downs next Saturday will afford trainers ample time to get their charges to the new scene of action. There were some shipments today, but the majority of the racing establishments will not be sent to Louisville until Thursday. Will Perkins sent a portion of his stable this morning. The consignment embraced sixteen horses, among the number being .Little Visitor, Ashland Oaks winner. The stables of T. H. Bernhardt, T. V. j Montjoy and C. E. Lenehan will be sent to Maple Heights, Thursday morning. John C. Gallaher departed last night for Asheville. N. C, where he will seek to regain his health. Sir Peter and Lad o Mine showed praiseworthy gallops today. The former went three-quarters in 1:14%, while the latter covered a half in :48%. Hopeless, an intended starter in the Clark Handicap, displayed fine speed when he worked a mile handily in 1:39%. Sweetheart, another Clark eligible, went the mile in 1:39%. Between the fourth and fifth races Reputa-■ tion was worked a mile in 1 :39%. The frac-1 tions were as follows : Quarter, :24 ; half, :47 ; three-quarters, 1 :12M;. Frederick Johnson, owner of Quatrain, was among the visitors from Louisville. He reports that the Kentucky Derby favorite is going along in splendid style and feels confident that he will render a good acount of himself in the big fixture at Churchill Downs on May 16. Jockey Fronk was advised that Lee O. Cotner would not be sent to Pimlico to start in the Preakness Stakes. According to word recently received here, Sam C. Hildreth intends to start Silver Fox in the Kentucky Derby and regards him in high favor. Jockey Albert Johnson has been engaged to ride Single Foot in the Kentucky Derby. That racer has recently come to the front rapidly and bids fair to be one of the choices in the race, a
