Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events cf May 15, 1905 Racing at Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Kansas City, Fair Grounds and Union Park at j St. I.ouis. There is every indication that the trouble I between the race track owners and the Metro-I politan Turf Association in New York will die j a natural death with the bookmakers organization accepting the terms which have already . been laid down with firmness. From reliable ! sources it is learned that the biggest book-i makers now operating at Belmont Park have ! decided to repudiate the policy mapped out by their leaders, including George Wheelock, ; Orlando Jones and Charles Honey. These j bookmakers never wanted a conflict and at the present time are anxious to continue with the business unmole ted. They do not feel that I the action of the track managers in calling j for eighty books in the front line each day war-j rants the friction that exists and they stand i ready to begin a move tn completely reorganize the Mets, if necessary, so that the track owners may be conciliated. •
