DOUBLE BRADLEY WIN 4 , Beau Butler and Brown Sugar Score for Idle Hour Farm. * Both Well Ridden by H. Meyer-Early Derby Arrivals Swell the Attendance. I,OUISVILJ Et Ky., May 15.— K. R. Bradleys Idle Hour-bred representatives figured extensively in todays Churchill Downs racing when Beau Butler accounted for the ,500 added mile and a sixteenth handicap and Brown Sugar took the secondary purse that engaged a good band o-f sprinters. The double victory was popular. Both were ridden by H. Meyer. lie showed good skill in handling them. Beau Butler was probably lucky to annex his race. Princess Doreen j was possibly his superior, but K. Pool rode her blunderingly, with the result that she j was beaten by a short half length. There were six starters in the race with Princess Doreen, the favored one and Sun-spero ! also absorbing attention, as well aa Beau Butler. The early running was dominated j by Princess Doreen and Stanwix, with Beau Butler restrained directly in the wake of the pair. Just before the stretch was reached Pool took Princess TXireen back , sharply, probably thinking he would meet interference from Stanwix, but Meyer took advantage of the opportunity and sent Beau Butler into a long lead. It stood him well in , hand, for Princess Doreen came with great , strides In the stretch and was going faster j than the winner at the end, Stanwix had no difficulty in retaining third place. The mile and a sixteenth was run in 1 :44tfc, almoat equalling the track record of 1:44 made by Lady Madcap. onrn a failure. Brown Sugar also bowled over a heavily supported favorite, when he finished in advance of Menifee. The latter displayed fine i speed and moved into a good lead, but Meyer got Brown Sugar out of trouble in the early stages and, keeping close to Menifees heels, finally managed to wear him down in the ; j last sixteenth to win drawing out. Roher-mel I after closing a big gap. finished in third place. An enormous* week-day attendance was on ■ hand this afternoon. It comprised the advance guard of the Derby crowd and a holiday aspect prevailed. Compared with last years Derby eve, todays crowd was much in eacaaa, nearly four thousand more programs bates used. The racing was spirited and spectacular. Williams Brothers Sanction scored a lucky victory la the fifth race even if he did race IBM fastest four and a half furlongs of the present meeting. Chicago, which finished in aaooaal place, was probably the best. J*« had an inner post position and failed to handle himself at the start as quickly as Sanction, resulting in his being considerably out of it and he also suffered some interference while Sanction enjoyed a good lead. This was gradually cut down when Chicago found his stride, but Sanction managed to win out by a length. Chicago outstayed Golden Mary for second place. The opener, at three-quarters, found Des-pard the winner. He was lucky at the start to he in the forward flight and, showing the most spi * d for the entire way, was an easy winner. Statler. coming with good speed in the stretch, finished in s» cand place, with Gorget getting up in third place. Queen Charming would have been a strong ?on-tender with capalle riding and a better beginning. Gorget was claimed at a cost of ,500 to C. Knern.tr. The second race, for two-year-olds, found a green hand, with many of them failing to get away from the barrier on even terms. The winner turned up in Caroline, an outsider, which beat home Hitter and Night Express. Judge I aily. a high considered one. was almost left and Banderole, also smartly regarded, showed dullness at the start anu was ridden wide. j An ordinary band raced the mile and a sixteenth in the third race. MaximanMi, the favorite, won from Loretta Brooks, with Protectress in third place. The winners success was aided by the incompetent L. Neal on Cherebu. He look this highly regarded one all over the track, with the result he failed to figure to any extent in the running. The closing race brought about a spectacular finish, with Bosh the winner. She was pounds the best and had to overcome all sorts if interference and a bad start, but he out-gamed Purity in the final strides. I*urity, also driving hard, outstayed Klusive. The latter and Purity had somewhat the best of the send-off.
